COMN GRND “Link Station Updates”
COMN GRND “Link Station Updates”
Week #4, the final song entry. Enjoy!
It’s that time again!
It’s a pretty well known pic of famous Olympian Jesse Owens (if you don’t know who he is…Google it). When we decided on the name for this track I just typed the title in to Google and the first thing that showed up was the single cover for the Hercules song of the same name. To be honest, if I had Photoshop or Illustrator I would have flipped the cover and made it work for this track. But I don’t, so I didn’t. After trying to figure out what I was gonna do I came up with the idea of having Jesse Owens on the cover cause I felt like it captured the vibe of the track as well as the vibe of this entire series. This track will be the final single song entry in our “NewSongEveryFridayDay” series. It’s a good one to end on because it’s our most reflective song that we’ve done as a group up to this point. After this we’ll be working on putting together a project that will feature all the songs we’ve released this month plus a few more!! Stay tuned!
It’s about that time again!
Maaaaan, I had a long ass paragraph about this cover and what it meant but when I clicked to update the post my computer deleted the whole thing! So I’ll try this again: This pic is taken from a 1984 interview with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. I think this pic is hilarious because they both look like they have someplace better to be than answering questions about their inventions or what they’re working on. Especially Bill! Dude, is just muggin’ the camera and not even looking in the direction that Steve is! I felt like adding the huge font over there heads kind of fit the feel if this particular track. Since we’ve moved to Seattle all we can talk about is Bill Gates. To be honest, both him and Steve Jobs have been the inspiration for most of these tracks we’ve released. But this is the picture with both of them that I chose because Bill has that look like he just wants to go back to his lab and create something that can change the world. It’s a look I get whenever I’m in a classroom or during a long day at work. Anyways, somebody let Billy and Steve know that COMN GRND is ON THEY HEELS!!!! Over and out.
COMN GRND Updates From Alki Beach
Week 2. Friday. Yep.
This pic was taken at some hip hop show at the Elks Lodge in Ann Arbor, MI. It must have been after Halloween 2010 becuase Cheeks still had pieces of his Mr. T moehawk from his costume lol. Anyways, everytime Tree City is in a room there’s the possibilty of different arguements/jokes being thrown around between 3 certain people: G.P., Cheeks, and DJ Cataclysmic. As you can see this paticular discussion took place between Cheeks and DJ Cataclysmic. I don’t remember what it was about but from the looks of it Cataclysmic had just hit a point where he didn’t wanna talk anymore and it escalated to the physical lol. If only I captured much more action packed altercations between these two! As you can see I’m in the background with the Celsius Electronics hoodie on laughing my ass off! Why? because it was FUNNY!!
"Seattle Sunsets" cover:
I had the idea for this cover when we first came up with the title for the song. I had recently noticed how dope the view of the sunset was from the window in our living room at the crib in Seattle and knew that I wanted to make that the cover pic for this track. In true rapper fashion I waited to the day before we were going to drop the track to take the picture in our backyard. I almost missed it cause it was the same night as the VMA’s and I was glued to the TV until I suddenly remembered I needed to take that picture before it was too late. So on a random commercial break I ran outside, snapped the pic and was able to make it work. I found this program online that allowed me to crop photos and add text so I loaded it in and looked for a font that looked as opposite as the actual song sounded as possible. I think I did pretty well lol! It looks like the title shot for a new California teen drama or something. I was very proud of myself and it set the tone for the rest of the covers.
"Overnight" cover (#NewSongEveryFridayDay series, week 1):
Halloween 2008. This was one of the more adventurous halloweens I’ve ever had. Cheeks and I went dressed up as Kanye West with me being ‘04 Kanye and Cheeks was ‘05 Kanye. I’m not sure if we intended on both of us being Kanye but it just kind of happened when Cheeks showed up at G.P.’s old apartment with that outfit on and an ascot around his neck! Needless to say we went all over town and crashed any house that even looked like they were having a party. During this whole night G.P. had his camera on deck and he was taking pics the whole night. The pic that was used for the cover is a moment towards the end of the night when Cheeks was pretty um…on one (or two), by then lol! This picture does the best job of reminding us how crazy that night was! Everytime I see it I have flashbacks.
